Prayer for protection
We cannot guard the people we love every minute, but we can bring them to the One who can. These prayers for protection cover family, home, the road and the night.
Prayers to pray now
A short prayer for protection
Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress. Cover me and the ones I love today. Amen.
A prayer for protection over my family
Father, I place my family under Your care. Watch over each of them when they leave this house and when they return.
Protect their bodies from harm and their hearts from fear. Guard their minds from lies and their friendships from harm. Where I cannot be with them, be with them.
When I lie awake worrying about them, remind me that You never sleep. Teach me to trust You with the people I love most.
Thank You that You keep our going out and our coming in, from this time forward. In Jesus' name, amen.
A prayer for protection while traveling or driving
Lord, go with me on this road. Keep me alert and patient, and protect me and everyone around me. Bring me safely to where I am going. Amen.
A prayer for protection over my home
God, let this home be a place of safety and peace. Guard its doors and everyone inside. Let Your presence fill it. Amen.
A prayer for protection while sleeping
Lord, I lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone keep me safe. Watch over this house through the night. Amen.
When and how to pray this
Pray for protection at natural thresholds: when someone leaves the house, before a trip, or at bedtime. Many families pray Psalm 91 or Psalm 121 together before travel.
Praying for protection is an act of trust, not a guarantee against every hardship. It hands our fear to God and asks for His care. It goes alongside wise, practical steps, never instead of them.

The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
